Former Japan coach Akira Nishino has expressed his interest in taking over the reins of the Thai national team.

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) on Tuesday confirmed that it has received Nishino's profile.

Nishino served as the coach of the Japanese team at the Fifa World Cup in Russia last year after Vahid Halilhodzic was sacked shortly before the tournament.

He helped the Blue Samurai qualify for the last 16 round where they lost 3-2 to Belgium.

So far, two foreign coaches have submitted their profiles to the Thai national governing body.

The other coach to apply for the job is South Korea's Yoon Jong-Hwan, who recently got the chop at Thai League 1 side SCG Muang Thong United after a spate of lacklustre results.

Yoon, a former South Korea international who has coached Cerezo Osaka in the J-League, is more keen in serving as the Thai U23 team coach.

The War Elephants are without a coach since their caretaker manager Sirisak Yodyardthai resigned last week following a poor run at the King's Cup earlier this month.

The Thai U23 team are also without a coach as Alexandre Gama left to join Muang Thong last week.
