Port bring in Steuble to bolster team

Thai League 1 giants Port, in a bid to arrest a mid-season slide, have signed the Philippines left wing back Martin Steuble.

The player signed the contract with Port yesterday after passing a medical.

Filipino-Swiss Steuble will be playing for Port as their Asean player.

He has represented the Philippines in 39 matches, scoring three goals.

Steuble, who last played for Ceres Negros in the Philippines League, is a versatile player who can assume many roles in a team. He has in the past also played as a central midfielder, but is better known for his speedy runs on the flanks.

He has also played in Switzerland with top teams like Grasshopper Zurich, Lausanne-Sport and Wohlen.

Before Steuble joined Ceres Negros in 2015, he made his debut for the Philippines national team in 2014. He was a teammate of SCG Muang Thong United star Charyl Chappuis at Grasshopper Zurich.

Port have suddenly hit a bad patch and recently dropped down to fifth place in the league standings after sustaining three losses in a row.

They are now four points behind leaders Buriram United. Port were the top-ranked side in the league until a couple of weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Samut Prakan City have signed two new South Korean players -- Kim Ho-Young from third-tier Korean club Mokpo City and Kim Pyung-Rae from Jeonnam Dragons.

The two Koreans are likely to play their first game for their new team this Sunday when Samut Prakan City host Chonburi.
