Thunder Castle aim to regain lost momentum

Port striker Josimar Rodrigues faces a battle to secure his future at the club.

Stakes will be high for both Port and their coach Jadet Meelarp when they host a resurgent Chonburi side in a Thai League 1 clash on Saturday.

Port's promising run in the league came to grinding halt a few weeks ago and a miserable haul of one point in four games has seen them slip from the top to fifth place.

Also under the spotlight will be Port's Josimar Rodrigues as the club has just signed two new forwards -- discarded Thai international Chenrop Samphaodi and Panama striker Rolando Blackburn.

Port assistant coach Weerayut bin Abdulrahman admitted that Jadet was under pressure to resurrect the team's faltering campaign.

"We must fight on because anything is possible in football. Coach Jadet attended Chonburi's last match and he has a game plan ready," said Weerayut.

He also added that Port need to give Josimar a chance as he has only started in one recent game, so "we feel he should be allowed to prove his worth to the team management."

Jeerasak Chomthong, the marketing director of Chonburi FC, said his team "face a tough task at Port because we will be without a number of key players.

"Lukian Almeida has joined Japanese club Jubilo Iwata, and we cannot use Teerathep Winothai as he is suspended. We have some injured players as well."

Chonburi on Friday announced that they have signed striker Artit Boodjinda on loan from Port as a replacement for Lukian.

Meanwhile, leaders Buriram United will also be missing some of their regular starters when they visit PT Prachuap on Sunday.

Samaporn Polbut, acting managing director of the Thunder Castle, said: "This is a big match for us as we need to regain our lost momentum and widen the gap at the top. We are aiming for three points from this match."

Prachuap assistant manager Bovornthep Laorattanaruangchai is expecting a difficult game but added that coach Thawatchai Dumrong-ongtrakul "prepared the team well for the match".

Second-placed Samut Prakan City, who face PTT Rayong tonight, have signed retired Thailand goalkeeper Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool for the second leg after their first-choice keeper Patiwat Kummai was ruled out for the season with a broken tibial bone.
