Former Italy striker Marco Simone insists he quit as coach of Ratchaburi Mitr Phol because he wants to return to work in Europe.

Simone, along with Ratchaburi deputy chairman Tanawat Nitikanchana, held a press conference yesterday to dismiss reports that he is leaving the Dragons because the club interfered in his work.

He said nobody had interfered in his job and that he himself selected the players for each match.

"In the world of football, changes happen all the time for coaches, players and other people. For coaches, it is difficult to stay with one club. You may stay at a club for three months or three years,'' Simone said.

The 50-year-old Italian, who joined Ratchaburi in March, said the Thai League 1 season has only three months left and he may lose his job at the end of the campaign.

"The European football season will soon begin and I have received an interesting offer from a European club. I have consulted the deputy club chairman and we agreed that my departure would be the best move," he said.

He said he may one day return to Ratchaburi.

"I have a good relationship with the club. I love the club. Tanawat is crazy about football and I am too."

During his stint in Thailand, Ratchaburi had eight wins, three draws and seven losses in all competitions.

Tanawat said: "Actually, we wanted to extend his contract for another year but we cannot stop him from going forward."

He dismissed reports that Ratchaburi had approached former Thailand coach Sirisak Yodyardthai.

Sompong joins Chonburi

Thai League 1 side Chonburi have continued their spending spree by signing former Thailand striker Sompong Soleb from Ratchaburi.

Sompong is the eighth player signed by coach Sasom Pobprasert who joined the Sharks a few weeks ago.

The much-travelling forward has played for Port, BBCU, Buriram FC, Super Power, Bangkok United and Ratchaburi.

He was part of the Thai team that won the AFF Suzuki Cup title in 2014.
