The Intellectual Property and International Trade Court has ordered the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) to pay Siam Sport Syndicate 50 million baht in damages for unfairly terminating a contract.

The company said in its suit that it had a contract with the FAT under previous president Worawi Makudi to oversee the broadcast of competitions under the organisation from 2013-2017 and 2018-2022.

When current FAT president Somyot Poompunmuang took office in 2016, the FAT terminated the contract although Siam Sport did not do anything wrong or breach the contract, the firm said.

In its ruling on Friday, the court said the FAT could not terminate the contract and ordered it to pay the firm 50 million baht plus interest.

Siam Sport thanked the court for the ruling but said it would appeal for a bigger sum in damages.

"We have suffered more than 50 million baht in damages," the company said.

Meanwhile, Somyot said national team coach Akira Nishino is interested in taking the War Elephants to Singapore to play a friendly match with Brazil in October.

According to Somyot, Nishino said it was a good opportunity for Thailand to play with a top team like Brazil.

However, there are other aspects to be considered, the FAT boss said.

Thailand will begin their qualifying round campaign for the 2022 World Cup against Vietnam at home on Sept 5 and away at Indonesia on Sept 10.

They will then host the United Arab Emirates, the seeded country in Group G, on Oct 15. The other team in the group are Malaysia.

Somyot earlier said he was contacted by representatives of Brazil for the War Elephants to play the five-time world champions in Singapore on Oct 10.

At that time, he said Nishino was worried that the players could be exhausted by the trip to Singapore ahead of the match against the UAE on Oct 15.
