Buriram United are keen to end a four-year title drought in the Thai League Cup, a tournament in which they have enjoyed unmatched success, on Saturday.

The northeastern giants are scheduled to take on PT Prachuap, a top-tier side with a barren trophy cabinet, at SCG Stadium at 7pm.

The Thunder Castle, who have lifted the League Cup four times on the six occasions they have qualified for the final, have not won the tournament since 2015.

The 2016 title showdown was called off after the passing away of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Buriram shared the trophy with SCG Muang Thong United that year.

Buriram coach Bozidar Bandovic's men have already missed their target of sweeping all three domestic titles after bowing out of the FA Cup semi-finals earlier this month.

Bandovic is extra keen to win tonight to keep Buriram's hopes of a double alive as they are neck-and-neck with Chiang Rai United in the race for this year's Thai League 1 title.

"First of all, we are very happy to have qualified for the final of this tournament. We want this trophy and we will try our best to win it," said Bandovic.

"It is a big challenge for our team and we are ready for this game.

"We have a 100 percent record against Prachuap. While I am not looking for much in these statistics, I do want the record to continue.

"I am not expecting an easy game. Prachuap are a good team. They have a good teamwork, but I know how they play.

"Our players are in a good frame of mind now. We do have some minor problems, but we will get through it. We hope that our fans will come and support us in this match. We will try our best to win the trophy."

Prachuap coach Thawatchai Dumrong-ongtrakul is hoping his men will play to their potential and win the first national trophy for the club tonight.

"I am very proud to have helped the team reach the final," said the former Thailand international.

"We may have reached the final of a national tournament for the first time, but I think we have what it takes to spring a surprise.

"Buriram are the No.1 team in Thailand, but let us wait till the match is over because our players have the confidence as well. We are now looking forward to the final and we are in good shape -- there are no injured or suspended players."

The winners will receive five million baht in addition to the trophy with the runners-up taking the one-million-baht cash reward.

Three points for Port

Hosts Port  handed Nakhon Ratchasima a 3-0 hammering to move within two points of joint Thai League 1 leaders Buriram United and Chiang Rai United.

The match was originally scheduled to be played two weeks ago but was postponed after a heavy downpour flooded the pitch at the PAT Stadium.

The Port scorers were Josimar Rodrigues (21st and 27th minutes) and Sergio Suarez (82nd).
