The Sports Authority of Thailand has ratified Somyot Poompunmuang's re-election as president of the Football Association of Thailand, SAT governor Gongsak Yodmani said on Friday.

Gonsak said he signed the approval last week after Somyot comfortably beat Nakhon Sawan MP Pinyo Niroj, the only other candidate, in last month's election.

Former national police chief Somyot, who also claimed a landslide victory in 2016, will be in office for another four years.

The FAT barred its former boss Worawi Makudi from contesting last month's polls.

Under FAT regulations, a person who was or is sued by the organisation or was ever suspended by Fifa cannot stand in the FAT presidential election.

Worawi has vowed to take the matter to Thai courts and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Gongsak said that if a court rules otherwise, the SAT is ready to act accordingly.

Before the election, Worawi lodged a complaint with the SAT which ruled in favour of the FAT.

Meanwhile, Somyot has donated 10 million baht via his foundation to the government to buy protective face masks and hand sanitisers in its battle with the novel coronavirus.

In another development, Thai League 1 club Buriram United have extended their youth development project with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, the Thunder Castle said yesterday.

"We are pleased to announce that Buriram United and Borussia Dortmund will continue our relationship," said Buriram's Chaichanok Chidchod.

"The young players who we will send to train at Dortmund will be our future players."

The cooperation between the two clubs began in 2018.
