Thai League 1 giants Port, True Bangkok United and SCG Muang Thong United have urged the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) to use Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in every game.

The call was made by Port chairwoman Nualphan Lamsam, Bangkok United chief Kajorn Chearavanont and Muang Thong chairman Viluck Lohthong at yesterday's press conference.

Nualphan said her Muang Thai Insurance company was ready to give the FAT 16 million baht for the purpose.

VAR was in use before the season was suspended in March after four rounds of matches due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The campaign will resume on Sept 12 and end in May next year.

The FAT said this week that VAR would only be used in important matches for the remainder of the season.

Clubs are allowed to have the system at their stadiums but also have to shoulder the expense of about 82,000 baht per game, the FAT said.

Viluck said Muang Thong suffered from a number of officiating errors last season and that VAR should help reduce mistakes by the referees.

Kajorn said VAR would help lift the standard of Thai football.

"We do not agree with the FAT's plan to use VAR in only important matches," Nualphan said.

She said Muang Thai Insurance was a sponsor of the FAT and paid the organisation 20 million a year.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the company wanted to reduce the sum to 16 million baht or withdraw the sponsorship altogether, Nualphan said.

"Now I have decided to continue supporting the FAT with 16 million baht which can be spent for VAR at every stadium," she said.

Nualphan also issued an open letter attacking the FAT on various issues.

Miti Tiyapairat, chief adviser of Thai League 1 champions Chiang Rai United, said in a tweet that he agreed with the use of VAR. "At least, it should be used in games involving Buriram United," he said sarcastically.
