Former champions SCG Muang Thong United continued their impressive resurgence in Thai League 1 with a 2-1 victory at struggling Chonburi on Thursday night.

The upshot helped the Kirins edge closer to the top four spots in the league with 28 points -- fourth-placed defending champions Chiang Rai United and No.5-ranked Ratchaburi are both now within striking distance for Muang Thong.

Results of midweek games have allowed unbeaten BG Pathum United to stretch their lead at the top to 10 points over second-placed Port who have collected 40 points from 18 games so far.

Willian Popp was on target for Muang Thong in the first-half injury time after pouncing on a defensive blunder by Chonburi's Kritsada Kaman and their advantage was doubled by Derley who beat an off-side trap to collect a long ball from Willian on 81 minutes.

The Sharks pulled one back in the dying moments but Jaycee John's late effort was not enough to inspire the hosts to inflict any further damage on Muang Thong.

In another match last night, John Baggio went on a four-goal rampage to help hosts Sukhothai rally past PT Prachuap 4-3.

After trailing Sukhothai by a goal for almost half an hour, Prachuap were given a reprieve when Sila Srikampang guided a shot from Chutiphol Thongthae into his own net five minutes from half-time.

Prachuap grabbed a one-goal edge early with William Henrique doing the scoring.

However, Baggio tilted balance in Sukhothai's favour with two goals only a couple of minutes apart from each other. Baggio first converted a penalty in the 14th minute and then grabbed his second through a field effort.

Wanchalerm Yingyong delivered the third for the visitors eight minutes into the first half but Baggio claimed two more goals in the 78th -- a penalty -- and 89th minutes to steal three points for the home team.
