Former Football Association of Thailand (FAT) president Worawi Makudi has taken over as executive chairman of bottom-placed Thai League 1 side Nakhon Ratchasima, who have yet to claim a point in the new season.
The announcement of Worawi's appointment comes as the Swat Cats prepare for Sunday's battle with fellow top-flight strugglers Police Tero at home.
Former deputy prime minister Suwat Liptapanlop, chairman of the club's advisory committee, said the team stands to benefit a great deal from Worawi's experience.
"We believe his [Worawi's] knowledge and experience after serving international and national football organisations for a long time will help Nakhon Ratchasima FC become a better and stronger team at all levels," Suwat added.
"We welcome Khun Worawi to the club and assure him of all possible support to help him make the club successful in the future."
The development is being seen as a comeback by Worawi, a former Fifa executive member who was the FAT president from 2007-2015.
He was unable to contest the FAT presidential election in 2016 because he was at that time suspended from all football-related activities by Fifa, allowing Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang to take over the post.
Later, the FAT disqualified Worawi from standing in last year's election because he is being sued by the organisation and was once suspended by Fifa. Somyot won his second term with ease in the 2020 election.
The Swat Cats have started the season with two straight losses and will be looking forward to a better show against Police on Sunday.
Police are also struggling and are ranked No.15 in the 16-team top flight after one draw and a loss in their first two games.
Meanwhile, in-form Thai League 1 sides -- hosts Samut Prakan City and True Bangkok United -- face off in an enticing fixture this evening.
Samut Prakan will be looking forward to avenge their home and away losses to Bangkok United last season.
Port will be relishing their chances of picking up their first win of the season after two straight draws under new coach Dusit Charlemsan when they take on newcomers Khon Kaen United tomorrow.
Defending champions BG Pathum United are not active this weekend as they are required to enter a mandatory 14-day quarantine after their AFC Champions League last 16 round defeat to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in a penalty shoot-out on Wednesday in South Korea.
Pathum were scheduled to play SCG Muang Thong United this weekend.
