Chonburi seek a home victory over former champions Chiang Rai United which would extend their stay at the top of Thai League for at least another week.

The two sides go face to face this evening in a game that coaches of both teams expect to be a closely fought affair.

Chonburi found themselves in a share of lead in the top flight with Samut Prakan City on eight points following a 7-0 hammering of promoted Khon Kaen United last weekend.

The Beetles, reeling in the bottom half of the league after four matches, will be seeking to bounce back from a shock 2-1 defeat to PT Prachuap at home last Sunday.

Sharks coach Sasom Pobprasert yesterday played down the importance of being the league leaders, saying: "I am just happy that the players are working hard and putting in their best. We will be glad if we can finish the season among the top four.

"I am expecting a close battle with Chiang Rai United -- they are a strong team and it is never easy to play against them."

Chiang Rai coach Emerson Perreira said: "We have worked very hard to get the team ready and we expect an exciting game.

"I still have confidence in every player and we should be able to claim at least a point from this game, but Chonburi are the home team and they are in great form."

On Saturday, arch foes Port and SCG Muang Thong United will face off.
