Thailand and Malaysia ended a match on Sunday with a draw that keeps the Young War Elephants uncertain of a ticket to the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup.

Thailand needed a win against Malaysia in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to be assured of a place in the Asian Cup.

But the Thais could manage only a goalless draw with Malaysia that kept the Malaysians two points ahead of their final Group J match in the qualifying round.

In their first two matches, Worrawoot Srimaka's men were held to a 1-1 draw by Mongolia and defeated Loas 3-0 while Malaysia beat both teams.

Thailand could still qualify for the Asian Cup but that would depend on the result of the other Group J match between Mongolia and Laos, along with games in other groups.

The 11 group winners plus four best runners-up will join hosts Uzbekistan in the finals in June 2022.
