SINGAPORE: Ikhsan Fandi scored 20 minutes from time to leave Singapore's Suzuki Cup semi-final with Indonesia finely poised as the nations shared a 1-1 draw in their first leg of their meeting in the Southeast Asian championship on Wednesday.

Ikhsan strode into the penalty area to latch onto Faris Ramli's through ball before slotting past Nadeo Argawinata at the Singapore National Stadium to earn the hosts a draw ahead of Saturday's second leg.

Witan Sulaeman had put Indonesia in front in the 28th minute when he applied the finishing touch to a flowing move on the break that cut the home defence apart before the Poland-based midfielder applied the finishing touch.

Indonesia are attempting to reach the final of the regional competition for the sixth time and have never won the title in 12 previous attempts.

Singapore, meanwhile, have been champions on four occasions, with their last success coming in 2012.

Current title holders Vietnam take on five-time winners Thailand in the first leg of their semi-final on Thursday.

The competition is being held in Singapore after the Asean Football Federation decided not to play on a home-and-away basis as a result of Covid-19 restrictions in place across the region.

The current edition of the Suzuki Cup was originally scheduled to be played in December 2020 but was postponed because of the pandemic.
