Danilo Alves scored twice as in-form Suphanburi defeated Nakhon Ratchasima 2-0 in Thai League 1 on Sunday night.

It was Suphanburi's fifth win in six league matches as the hosts are now five points above the relegation zone.

The visitors were awarded a penalty after Amadou Ouattara was fouled in the area.

But Kwame Karikari's spot kick was saved by Suphanburi goalkeeper Patrick Deyto after 33 minutes.

The Swat Cats were punished five minutes later when they conceded a penalty and Alves made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 38th minute.

Suphanburi were the dominant side in the second half but had to wait until the final moments with Alves scoring on the counter-attack.

Meanwhile, after the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) lifted a ban on Thailand earlier this month, the Football Association of Thailand will bid to host the AFC Asian Cup qualifying round in June, FAT secretary-general Patit Supaphong said yesterday.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is expected to announce the host nation for the Asian Cup qualifying round on Feb 24.

Malaysia, Indonesia and Uzbekistan are also interested in hosting the event.

The FAT will also bid to host Group G, which features BG Pathum United, and Group J, which includes Chiang Rai United, of the AFC Champions League, Patit said.
