Thailand cruised into the title showdown of the AFF U23 Championship with a 2-0 victory over Laos in the last four stage of the regional event in Phnom Penh on Thursday.

Teerasak Phoeimiphai struck in the 14th minute and Kroekphon Arbram converted a penalty seven minutes into the second half to give the War Elephants a shot at the title.

It was one-way traffic right from the start with Thailand enjoying the bulk of the possession.

Thailand made most of the their moves from the wings with Niphitphon Wongpanya and Kroekphon giving the Laotian defenders a tough time. Full-backs Thawatchai Inprakhon and Waris Choolthong also contributed offensively.

The War Elephants did not have to wait long to get their nose in front courtesy of a goalkeeping error from Phounin Phounin.

Niphitphon floated in a cross from the left flank towards Teerasak. Laos keeper Phounin made a dash to ward off the cross only to fumble the ball for Teerasak to volley it into the empty net.

With Laos pinned to their own half, the Thais continued attacking and won a penalty early in the second half when Thawatchai was fouled inside the box.

Kroekphon's shot was powerful enough to find its way into the net despite Phounin getting a hand to it.

After conceding the second goal, Laos tried to make their presence felt but lacked effective combination to bother the Thai defenders.

The Thais will play winners of last night's second semi-final between Timor Leste and Vietnam tomorrow.
