Thai League 3 side Bangkok FC have sacked their player Aitsaret Noichaiboon after he floored an opponent with a Muay Thai-style elbow strike on Sunday.
Bangkok FC said on Monday Aitsaret's contract was terminated effective immediately.
The move came after the player attacked North Bangkok University FC's Supasan Ruangsuphanimit during a Thai League 3 match.
The incident took place when Bangkok FC were trailing 3-0 in their Thai League 3 promotion play-off clash at North Bangkok University.
Supasan clipped Aitsaret during the closing stages of the match. Aitsaret then threw a devastating elbow into his opponent's face, instantly flooring him.
Aitsaret was immediately sent off by the referee and the victim required 24 stitches.
"Bangkok FC would like to [take a] stand and not support the action," Bangkok FC said in a statement.
"The club has cancelled the contract of the player.
"The club would like to express our apologies for the incident and will do everything possible to stop this happening again."
