Singapore: After defending his One middleweight world championship only a few weeks ago, Reinier de Ridder is ready to step into the circle once again.
For his next challenge, the two-division champion will take on jiu-jitsu expert Andre Galvao in a submission grappling match at One X on March 26 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
"The Dutch Knight" is quickly becoming one of the most acclaimed competitors on the One roster after snagging titles at both light-heavyweight and middleweight.
He even jumped on the microphone after his last bout against Kiamrian Abbasov to call out Galvao.
"In three weeks at One X, Andre Galvao, let's find out who the best grappler is around these parts. Let's go man, I'll choke you out," De Ridder said from inside the circle.
De Ridder defeated Abbasov via a rear-naked choke in the third round of One: Full Circle, after controlling his opponent's position for much of the match.
This time, however, he'll be facing a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist, and his black belts in jiu-jitsu and judo may not be enough for the Dutch athlete to take home a win.
Galvao has been itching to get into the One circle for some time after signing with the MMA promotion company in mid-fall of last year.
The six-time ADCC world champion has defeated notable contenders such as Rousimar Palhares, Vinny Magalhaes and Filpe Pena.
Eager for his debut, Galvao immediately accepted the match.
"Right after a great victory via sub [submission], black belt and the One FC double champ Reinier De Ridder challenged me. Hey One Championship let's make it happen. I'm ready," he said through a social media post.
