Sadom Kaewkanjana, left, and other golfers take part in a promotional event ahead of the Thailand Mixed in Hat Yai which begins today.

Sadom Kaewkanjana will lead a strong field at the three-million-baht Thailand Mixed, which tees off today at the Southern Hill Golf and Country Club in Hat Yai.

The 23-year-old, who won the Singapore Open in January, is Thailand's highest-ranked male player at No.128.

Other players in the second tournament in the 2022 Thailand Mixed series include veteran Kwanchai Tannin and young gun Nutchanon Wivattanat and Thai LPGA Tour stars Onkanok Soisuwan, Chanoknan Angurasaranee and Pinyada Kuvanun.

The winner will take home 450,000 baht.

The top two female players after three events will earn tickets to the TrustGolf Women's Scottish Open from July 28-31 at Dundonald Links in Scotland.

This week's event is being organised under strict Covid-19 protocols.

Duo chase Unique double

Khalin Joshi and Viraj Madappa, two of India's most promising golfers, will tee off in the DGC Open today at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) attempting to complete a unique double.

Joshi has the distinction of winning at the DGC the last time the Asian Tour staged an event there -- at the Panasonic Open India, in October 2018.

And Madappa triumphed almost exactly three years later at the venue at the TATA Steel PGTI MP Cup on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), which was the first professional tournament played on the course, re-designed by nine-time major winner Gary Player of South Africa who happens to be on site this week.

A total of 13 Thai players are in the field including Atiruj Winaicharoenchai and Nitithorn Thippong.

Race against time

Defending Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama is dealing with a nagging back injury and doing everything he can to get healthy as he looks for another moment of glory at Augusta National.

Matsuyama said his current plan is to play in next week's Valero Texas Open as a tune-up for the April 7-10 Masters, the opening men's major championship of the year.

He said he has been receiving a lot of treatment and his recovery is about 80 percent.

The 30-year-old Japanese withdrew from the Players Championship on March 10 with neck and shoulder injuries.

He decided against playing in this week's World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play.
