LIV debate set to simmer

Undoubtedly, there will be much written in the coming weeks/months about the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) being threatened by Greg Norman inviting players to play in his LIV tournaments.

Here's the reality of the situation -- if you were invited to London to play in a three-day competition whereby, if you came last, you would pick up a cheque of US$125,000, what would you do?

To the older players facing looming retirement and increasing problems of flexibility to receive millions, it would be very hard to pass up the opportunity.

The problem that all will face is the backlash of their respective tours for doing this.

Will they be expelled for going after the massive cash on offer?

This in a nutshell is the dilemma facing many a player and tour official.

The issue is "can a player be stopped from playing in whatever tournament they wish and in whatever country they wish?"

PGA Tour and DP World Tour members can still compete in the inaugural LIV event in London next month, but they'd face possible sanctions that could include fines, suspensions or, as threatened, lifetime bans.

Norman said that six of the top 50, 19 of the top 100 and 36 of the top 150 players in the world rankings have signed up to play in London.

Out of Bounds: All suffering on the golf course is caused by ignorance. Golfers inflict pain on themselves in the selfish pursuit of their own happiness. Irrespective of whether we are believers or agnostics unfortunately golfing "karma" will pursue us should we have a series of a few good holes!
