Supak and Supissara's fantastic run comes to end in semi-finals

Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran's remarkable run in Kuala Lumpur came to an end when the Thai mixed doubles pair lost in the semi-finals of the US$360,000 Malaysia Masters badminton tournament on Saturday.

The world No.22 Thais, who were hoping to make it to their first World Tour final, were beaten by Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari of Indonesia 21-18, 10-21, 21-15 in 44 minutes at Axiata Arena.

They claimed probably the biggest win of their career on Friday by beating third seeds Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino of Japan in the quarter-finals.

Rivaldy and Mentari will meet the winners of the second semi-final between second seeds Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong of China and Yang Po-hsuan and Hu Ling-fang of Taiwan.

In the women's singles event, Tokyo Olympic champion Chen Yufei of China knocked out second seed Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan 21-13, 23-21 to set up a showdown against South Korean third seed An Se-Young, who defeated Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia 21-18, 13-21, 21-8 in the second semi-final.

The battle for the men's singles crown will be between eighth seed Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong and Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo of Indonesia.

Ng defeated HS Prannoy of India 17-21, 21-9, 21-17 while Wardoyo scraped past Lu Guangzu of China 20-22, 23-21, 21-19.

Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida of Japan defeated Jeong Na-Eun and Kim Hye-Jeong of South Korea 24-22, 21-13 to reach the women's doubles final.

The sixth-seeded pair will vie for title against China's Chen Qingchen and Jian Yifan after the top seeds beat Tan Pearly and Thinaah Muralitharan of Malaysia 21-10, 21-19.

Third seeds Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia defeated Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang of China 21-19, 21-14 to progress to the men's doubles decider.

They will face either compatriots Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto or Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia in the final.
