Thai cyclist Jai Angsuthasawit made a winning return to action when he and teammates claimed the sprint team title at the Track Asia Cup in Suphan Buri yesterday.

Jai, Jaturong Niwanti and Wachirawit Saenkhamwong won the men's sprint team event with a record time of 1:02.244min, which beat the previous national mark of 1:03.480.

Malaysia took silver (1:04.117) and Hong Kong got bronze (1:03.519).

Jai, considered Thailand's best male cyclist at the moment, had suffered a heat stroke earlier in the tournament.

"Today's competition was not easy because many teams were very strong," said Jai.

"We had to be at our best to win the title. We were lucky to win the gold medal."

Jaturong said: "It was a good competition today. I would like to thank Jai and Wachirawat for helping the team win gold."

Thai Cycling Association president Decha Hemkrasri said it was good to see Jai make a successful comeback just days after suffering a heat stroke.

The tournament ends today.

Meanwhile, at the UCI Mountain Elimination World Cup tournament in Palangkaraya, Indonesia, Thai athlete Warinthon Petchpraphan won silver in the women's elite event.

She finished in 1:52.10min, behind champion Marion Fromberger of Germany (1:47.98).

Indonesia's Ayu Triya Andriyana took brone (1:58.05).

In the men's elite event, Thailand's Methasit Boonsane finished third in 1:37.26.

France's Quejtin Schrotzenberger won gold and German Simon Gegenheimer got silver.
