Benyapa Niphatsopon shot a five-under-par 72 yesterday to share the second-round lead with Arpichaya Yubol at the eighth SAT-TWT Open Road to World Ranking at Rayong Green Valley Country Club.

While the rest of the field had at least one bogey in the second round, Benyapa committed no error at the dampened 6,378-yard course.

Benyapa had a two-day total of five-under 139 to share the lead with Arpichaya who shot a 71 in the 2.5 million baht tournament.

"I just focused on one shot at a time today. I hit the iron better than yesterday which was why I had a low score today," said Benyapa.

Once one of the country's best female golfers, Benyapa's career has been hampered by wrist injuries, forcing her to take several breaks from competition.

Since turning professional in 2015, she has yet to win a tournament with a joint sixth finish in the 2018 LPGA Tour event in Portland her best result on the elite tour to date.

Asked if this was her time for a breakthrough win, Benyapa said: "I don't expect anything at all. I'm not even sure whether we will be able to play tomorrow [today] due to the weather condition."

With typhoon Noru hitting several provinces in Thailand, organisers are keep their fingers crossed that the event could be completed.

Benyapa just resumed training a few days before the tournament as she had to look after her mother, who is being hospitalised after an accident, and family's business.

"My mother was injured after a gas explosion, but now she is safe. She is the reason why I'm competing here because knowing that I'm competing is something that makes her happy. I call her every day," Benyapa said.
