Thailand will begin their last 16 campaign at the FIVB Women's World Championship against Canada tomorrow in Lodz, Poland.
Drawn in Pool F for the last 16 round action, Thailand will play Germany on Wednesday before facing Serbia and United States on Oct 7-8.
Having already secured their last-16 spot following their victory over South Korea on Thursday, the Thais edged eighth-ranked Dominican Republic 3-2 (31-29, 16-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-9) in their last Pool B match in Gdansk on Saturday.
They ended the first phase with four wins and one loss and finished runners-up to Turkey, who defeated Poland 3-2 in their last Pool B match, in the group table.
Ajcharaporn Kongyot was Thailand's top scorer with 26 points while Pimpichaya Kokram added 25.
Team captain and setter Pornpun Guedpard said after the thrilling victory that the Thai team did not expect to do this well against Dominican Republic after they had been up against several strong opponents.
Thailand will not have to play the other teams in Pool F -- Turkey, Poland and Dominican Republic -- who came from the same first round pool.
The second round standings take into account points secured by each team in both first and second rounds.
The second round of the championship will be held in Poland and the Netherlands until Oct 15.
The top-four teams in each pool will advance to the quarter-finals.
Thailand are playing in their seventh world championship, with their best finish being 13th in the 2010 and 2018 tournaments.
The team's ultimate goal is claiming the country's first-ever Olympic spot in the sport at Paris 2024.
