Prayad Marksaeng continued his brilliant run in Japan on Sunday winning his fifth consecutive title at the Fukuoka Senior Open.

The 56-year-old Thai, who has been playing on the Japanese senior tour since 2016, shot a four-under-par 68 in the second and final round at Fukuoka Country Club.

He defeated local star Hiroyuki Fujita by one shot.

"I am really happy. I have been playing in Japan for many years and this is the first time I have won five titles in a row," said Prayad, who has competed in 11 tournaments this year.

"Although I have already won many titles, I still want to win more."

Sunday's win was his 20th on Japan's senior circuit.

With the winner's cheque of ¥7 million (approx 1.8 million baht), Prayad is assured his fourth Order of Merit title of the 2022 season with two events remaining.

The Thai has won ¥53.61 million in prize money this year, ahead of Fujita who has earned ¥39.93 million.

Prayad previously won the money title from 2016-2018.

Power matters

Ireland's Seamus Power captured his second career PGA Tour victory on Sunday winning the Bermuda Championship after a final-round collapse on the back nine by US rookie Ben Griffin.

Power fired a one-under-par 70 to finish 72 holes on 19-under 265 and defeat Belgium's Thomas Detry by a stroke over the seaside layout at Port Royal Golf Club in Southampton, Bermuda.

Power, the highest-ranked player in the field at 48th in the world, won his only prior PGA Tour title at last year's Barbasol Championship.

"Completely different feeling but just as special," Power said. "It's so hard.

"It's amazing. It's special. It's going to take a little while to sink in but absolutely over the moon." — Bangkok post/afp
