The Royal Thai Army, together with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and WBC MuayThai, will host the first-ever Amazing MuayThai Festival in Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, from Feb 4 to 6 next year, army chief Narongpan Jitkaewthae said on Wednesday.

The festival will take place at Rajabhakti Park and nearby locations, Gen Narongpan said at the army headquarters in Bangkok.

"The highlight will be the world's largest wai-kru ceremony performed by 5,000 Muay Thai boxers on Feb 6, which will set a Guiness World Record," said the army chief. Wai-kru is a traditional ritual in which students pay respect to their teachers.

Other highlights will include seminars, training with well-known boxers, local and international competitions, and exhibitions on Thai monarchs and famous boxers and the history of the Thai combat sport.

The festival will also introduce Muay Thai camps in Hua Hin, technologies related to Muay Thai, and sports products, he added.
