Defending champions Thailand arrived in Malaysia on Thursday ahead of the semi-final first leg of the 2022 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup on Saturday at Kuala Lumpur's Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

The War Elephants have never beaten Malaysia at Bukit Jalil, which is often packed to its capacity of about 90,000 fans.

But Thailand coach Mano Polking said his men would not be intimidated by the daunting atmosphere at the stadium and would seal their first ever win at the venue.

"We do our homework before every game and we already have a plan for the match against Malaysia," the German-Brazilian tactician said before leaving for Kuala Lumpur.

He said he was not worried about past records.

"Records can always be broken. We have a clear target. We want to get a result in the first leg for an advantage in the return leg [on Tuesday]," Polking said.

Thailand lost to Malaysia in the King's Cup in Chiang Mai in September but Polking said tomorrow's game will be different.

"We have studied their matches in this tournament," he said.

He added: "The stadium [Bukit Jalil] will be packed with local fans. It will be a difficult game for us. But we have already played in a similar atmosphere in Indonesia [in the group stage which ended in a 1-1 draw].

"This is one of the most important games. But we will play the second leg in front of our fans who could help us qualify for the final."

The return leg will take place at Thammasat Stadium on Tuesday.

Polking said his team were at full strength with defender Chatmongkol Rueangthanarot returning to training following an injury.

Thailand will be led by striker Teerasil Dangda, the tournament's all-time top scorer with 24 goals.

The 34-year-old forward has found the back of the net four times in the ongoing championship.

They are captained by Theerathon Bunmathan.

Thailand are chasing a record-extending seventh Asean Cup title.

The event may be an auspicious competition for Polking who guided the War Elephants to reclaim the crown on New Year's Day of 2022 in his first assignment as coach of Thailand.

In the other semi-final, Vietnam face Indonesia with the first leg taking place in Jakarta on Friday.

"Vietnam are playing well and are very well organised defensively and now we're in the semi-finals there are only strong teams remaining," Indonesia coach Shin Tae-Yong said on Thursday.

"Now that we're here, everybody is ready and looking forward to this match.

"I promise that we will put in our best performance against Vietnam."

Indonesia lost to Thailand in the final of the previous edition.
