Heberty strikes late as Angels edge Lampang

Bangkok United won their second straight Thai League 1 battle under their new coach Totchtawan Sripan with a narrow 1-0 victory over bottom-placed Lampang last night.

Hosts Bangkok United were held scoreless for over 80 minutes and the Angels' were finally spared their blushes by Heberty who converted a penalty.

Lampang missed an opportunity in the dying moments to level the score.

Today, all eyes will be on the clash between the top two sides in the league, Buriram United and Chonburi.

Buriram coach Masatada Ishii yesterday labelled the Sharks as the favourites, citing a lack of recovery period after the Thunder Castle's midweek League Cup victory over arch-rivals Muang Thong United.

"The fact that we have had only three days to regain fitness and prepare for this important game gives Chonburi the upper hand," said Ishii.

"But we'll be following our policy of fielding only the fittest players.

"Chonburi are a very strong team and they are No.2 in the league standings for a reason.

"Our chances of retaining the league title are very high at the moment but first we must focus on this game and try everything possible to win at Chonburi."

In other matches today, fourth-ranked Ratchaburi will be eager to make amends for their shock 2-0 loss to struggling Khon Kaen United last weekend when the second leg of the season got underway.

Ratchaburi take on Lamphun Warriors away, while in other games Police Tero host BG Pathum United and Khon Kaen United face Sukhothai at home.
