Buriram United extended their Thai League 1 lead to 11 points after beating previously closest rivals Chonburi 2-0 in a drama-filled game at Chang Arena on Sunday night.

Supachai Chaided opened the scoring for the home team after 42 minutes and Goran Causic added the other from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute.

After 17 games, Buriram have 45 points, 11 ahead of Bangkok United, with Chonburi dropping to third place on 33 points.

Buriram coach Masatada Ishii said he was pleased with his team's performance as they had to play three games in one week.

The Japanese said he did not care much about how big the lead the Thunder Castle are holding.

"We only work hard and try to win the next game," he said.

Chonburi coach Sasom Pobprasert said it was not a shame to lose to a better side.

But he blasted the VAR system and the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) as he believed Supachai may have been in an offside position before he scored the first goal of the game.

He said the system did not clearly show if the player was onside or not and called on the FAT to clarify the matter.

The outspoken coach refused to shake hands with Ishii before the game.

He defended his act saying Ishii is not his father.

"I don't want to be friend with him. I don't know him personally. No need to dig for more drama," said Sasom, also a TV commentator.

"I don't care -- he is not my father, not my [older] brother."

In Sunday's last game, Police Tero drew 0-0 with Pathum United.
