Jang claims fifth stage, Batsaikhan stays favourite

South Korean national cyclist Jang Kyung-Gu won the 169km fifth stage of the Tour of Thailand 2023 from Sa Kaeo to Chanthaburi yesterday.

Jang crossed the finish line in 4:00.29 hours.

The second place went to Australian rider Ivory Cameron of St George Continental Cycling Team with a time of 4:01.11 hours while German Lucas Carstensen of Roojai Online Insurance (ROI) took the third place with the same time.

Sarawut Sirironnachai of Thailand Continental Cycling Team (TCC) was the best Thai rider, finishing in seventh spot, 43sec behind the winner.

Mongolia's Tegshbayar Batsaikhan of ROI retained the overall leader's yellow jersey with a total time of 19:59.08 hours.

Terry Yudha Kusuma of Indonesia kept the green jersey and purple jersey as sprint leader and best Asean rider while Jang remained king of the mountains (polka dot jersey).

The Indonesian national side were the best overall team with a total time of 59:33.33 hours after five days.

Today's sixth and final stage starts in Chanthaburi and finishes in Rayong, covering a distance of 167.30km.

The winner of the prestigious tournament will receive the trophy graciously donated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The tournament is sanctioned by the sport's governing body UCI.

The women's Tour of Thailand will be held in Rayong from April 8-10.
