Generate the spin this way

I'm frequently asked how to put spin on chip or pitch shots and here are four tips that might help you achieve this.

Having the ability and skill of hitting a low shot around the green that stops quickly is an attribute that would be valuable to possess.

Golfing DNA is programmed in every golfer and in a specific way you are predisposed to swinging the club, based on your unique biomechanics.

Those tendencies show up in all your shots, including those around the green, which sometimes can be detrimental to your score.

Being able to stop the ball is a useful shot to have in your bag, especially into tiered greens where you need the ball to carry past the slope and then stop quickly. But without the following adjustments, you just might thin and skull it.

Step 1 is to position the ball back in your stance, off the toes of your right foot.

Step 2 is to press your hands forward and lean the shaft towards the target and also lean in the same direction when you make your swing.

Step 3 set your weight forward but keep the tilt in your shoulders (right shoulder lower than your left).

Lastly, try hard to extend your right arm as you come into the ball.

It will be easier for some than for others but feeling like your arm is extending into the ground will generate the spin and loft you are looking for.

Out of Bounds: This is what I tell my junior students: "You can get discouraged with golf many times, but you are not a failure until you begin to blame somebody else and stop trying".
