New BG Pathum United coach Thongchai Sukkoki aims to derail Buriram United's treble bid when they meet in the League Cup final on Saturday.

The match at Muang Thong United's Thunder Dome kicks off at 6pm. The winners will get five million baht and the runners-up one million baht.

Thongchai was surprisingly appointed Pathum coach last week after he guided Nakhon Pathom United to Thai League 1 as the Thai League 2 champions recently.

The 49-year-old began his stint with the Rabbits in their win over Chonburi in the final game of the Thai League 1 season last Friday.

"Our opponents in the final are the best team in the country," Thongchai told a pre-match press conference on Friday.

"They are a very strong team and can quickly change tactics. They are strong in every department.

"But we have been preparing to handle them. It is hard to beat them but if we are well prepared, we can beat them."

BG's strike force will be led by Teerasil Dangda with Chatree Chimtalay on the bench.

Their defence will be marshalled by former Buriram defender Andres Tunez.

Pathum finished ninth in Thai League 1 in the 2022-23 season.

"We will do our best to win this trophy and stop them from winning three trophies," said former Thailand goalkeeper Thongchai.

Buriram director Samaporn Polbutr told the press conference that their coach Masatada Ishii won three trophies with the Thunder Castle last season and has already claimed the Thai League 1 crown this term.

"The coach wants to win three trophies again," she said.

"We are not bored with becoming champions again and again. We are confident that we will take the trophy back to our home."

Buriram's attack will be spearheaded by Supachai Chaided, the league's top scorer with 19 goals.

The defence features Thailand internationals Theerathon Bunmathan and Naruebodin Weerawatnodom.

While Buriram have been the dominant force over the past few years, Pathum have beaten them three times in their last five meetings.

Buriram will meet Bangkok United in the FA Cup final on May 28.
