Supanida Katethong claimed her breakthrough victory after winning the US$210,000 BWF US Open in Iowa on Monday morning (Thai time).

Sixth seed Supanida defeated China's Gao Fangjie 21-15, 21-16 to win the women's singles title at the BWF World Tour Super 300 event at Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

It is Supanida's maiden World Tour title.

Her previous best World Tour result was a runner-up finish at the 2022 India Open.

She is the second Thai player to win the US Open title after Sapsiree Taerattanachai in 2013.

Unseeded Gao had upset top seed Ratchanok Intanon in a three-game thriller in the semi-finals.

However compatriot and world No.4 Kunlavut Vitidsarn missed out on a chance to win his third title of the year after losing to China's Li Shifeng in the men's singles decider.

The Thai top seed was beaten by the Chinese second seed 15-21, 18-21.

Kunlavut's two titles this year were at the India Open (Super 750) and the Thailand Open (Super 500).

The men's doubles crown went to Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin.

The Malaysian pair defeated Taiwanese twin brothers Lee Fang-chih and Lee Fang-jen 21-9, 21-10 in the title match.

Fifth seeds Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning of China bagged the women's doubles crown after they upset top seeds Maiken Fruergaard and Sara Thygesen of Denmark 21-19, 21-19.

The mixed doubles title was won by Taiwanese top seeds Ye Hong-wei and Lee Chia Hsin, who overcame third seeds Mathias Thyrri Amalie Magelund of Denmark 13-21, 21-6, 21-18.
