Thai clubs get Chinese rivals

Thai League 1 sides BG Pathum United and Port will both take on Chinese opponents in the AFC Champions League play-offs away on Aug 22.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) yesterday announced the schedule for this year play-offs, winners of which will qualify for the group stage of Asia's premier club competition.

Thai League 1 winners Buriram United and runners-up Bangkok United have already qualified for the group stages of the upcoming ACL.

Port, who have acquired a handful of new faces to bolster their team in the off-season, will meet China's Zhejiang on Aug 22 at Huzhou Olympic Sports Center, in Huzhou, China.

Pathum United, who recently strengthened their side with the high-profile signing of Thailand playmaker Chanathip Songkrasin, will face Shanghai Port on the same day at SAIC Motor Pudong Arena in Shanghai, China.

Both matches will kick off at 6.30pm (Thai time).

The winners from the two play-offs will be placed in Pot Four for the group stage draw, which is scheduled to take place on Aug 24.
