Dechapol and Sapsiree exit Korea Open after semi-final defeat

Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai's quest for the Korea Open mixed doubles title ended in the semi-finals of the US$420,000 tournament in Yeosu yesterday.

The Thai second seeds went down to fourth-seeded Chinese pair Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping 18-21, 14-21 in the last four of the World Tour Super 500 event.

Feng and Huang will play compatriots Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin for the title today.

Eighth seeds Jiang and Wei upset third seeds Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino of Japan 21-12, 20-22, 21-12 in the other semi-final.

In the women's singles final, second seed An Se-Young will battle it out against fourth seed Tai Tzu-ying.

Korean An rallied to beat China's third seed Chen Yufei, the reigning Olympic champion, 15-21, 21-8, 24-22, while Taiwan's Tai downed top seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-17, 21-19.

Men's top seed Kodai Naraoka also exited the tournament in the last-four stage.

The Japanese star lost to fourth seed Loh Kean Yew of Singapore 21-18, 16-21, 15-21.

Loh will play either third seed Shi Yuqi of China or Denmark's Anders Antonsen in the final.

Kim So-Yeong and Kong Hee-Yong of South Korea will vie for the women's doubles crown after beating Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara of Japan 21-16, 19-21, 21-12 in the semis.

They will play top seeds Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan in the title match after the Chinese pair defeated compatriots Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu 21-12, 21-12.
