In the early days of the Premier League a common headline at the start of each season was "Who Can Stop United?'' It was a reference to Manchester United who won the title a remarkable eight times in the first 11 seasons, with only Blackburn Rovers and Arsenal preventing complete domination.

Now we have "Who Can Stop City?" with Manchester City having won the title in five of the last six seasons, including the last three. And as long as striker Erling Haaland and playmaker Kevin de Bruyne stay fit most people would bet on City again.

Having the same team dominating the table every year is not great news for fans who would prefer a variety of clubs at the top. But who can challenge Pep Guardiola's talented squad? There's not a great choice, but you never know. You can't read too much into dull Community Shield match except that both City and Arsenal will be very difficult to beat.

Arsenal pushed City all the way last season looking likely winners until they stumbled in the final run-in. They are an exciting squad with top class wingers in Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka and with the arrival of midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham the Gunners should be challenging again.

United fans will be hoping they can sustain their much-improved performance under Erik ten Haag which saw them win the League Cup and finish third. There is nothing they would like more than to topple their "noisy neighbours" and if Marcus Rashford can get some decent support they will be halfway there.

Newcastle even surprised their manager Eddie Howe in clinching fourth place. It will be interesting to see how they handle the extra pressure of the Champions League. The Magpies have not won a significant trophy in 55 years and would like to change that this season. They certainly have the financial resources.

Coming off a disappointing season Liverpool's aim will be the top four. With many familiar faces like Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and James Milner gone. it will involve a new-look midfield which could take time to gel.

Brighton gained many admirers last season with their attacking play which saw them qualify for the Europa League. They have lost several key players and whether the Seagulls can handle the extra games remains to be seen. The same goes for Unai Emery's promising squad at Aston Villa who now have the European Conference League to deal with.

Of the London clubs, Brentford will be without inspirational striker Ivan Toney who is banned for the first half of the season. Despite the Harry Kane distraction Tottenham fans have reportedly been impressed by the attacking style of play adopted by new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Chelsea have been boosted by the arrival of inspirational manager Mauricio Pochettino, but it could take the Blues a while to recover from last season's disaster.

The newly-promoted clubs are always tipped for relegation but all three survived last season with Fulham even finishing 10th. Both Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest just made it but could be vulnerable again this season as could Everton.

It is hardly surprising that a small club like Luton are heavily tipped for the drop although Burnley and Sheffield United will fancy their chances back in the top flight.

We've already experienced the first managerial casualty with Wolves losing Julen Lopetegui before a ball has even been kicked. Former Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil has taken over the reins and the best of luck to him. Don't rule out another managerial merry-go -round.
