The Thai League 1 side earned their place in the group stage after stunning Shanghai Port 3-2 in China in a one-off play-off match on Tuesday.

But the Rabbits have been handed a daunting assignment in the tournament proper as they will also face South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai and Malaysia's Johor Darul Ta'zim in Group I.

Thai League 1 champions Buriram United got a relatively favourable draw.

The Thunder Castle are in Group H with Ventforet Kofu of Japan, Melbourne City from Australia and China's Zhejiang, who eliminated Thailand's Port in the play-off round on Tuesday.

Bangkok United, the other Thai team in the championship, were drawn to meet Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of South Korea, Lion City Sailors from Singapore and Kitchee SC of Hong Kong.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr will kick off their group stage challenge in Tehran against Iran's Persepolis next month.

Nassr also had to qualify through the play-offs after a late 4-2 win over Shabab Al Ahli of the United Arab Emirates. The Luis Castro coached outfit will also play Qatar's Al Duhail and FC Istiklol from Tajikistan in Group E.

The group phase of the continental competition will kick off on Sept 18 and will see clubs divided into five groups each in the western and eastern regions.

Winners of the 10 groups will advance to the knockout rounds alongside the three best runners-up from the western and eastern halves of the draw.
