Dechapol and Sapsiree win, Supak and Supissara exit

Mixed doubles stars Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai booked their berth in the quarter-finals of the BWF World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Thursday.

The fourth seeded Thai pair defeated Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari of Indonesia 21-12, 21-19.

Dechapol and Sapsiree will play fifth seeds Seo Seung-Jae and Chae Yu-Jung of South Korea in the last eight on Friday.

The fifth seeded Koreans survived a tough test against another Thai duo Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran, winning their last-16 clash 21-10, 15-21, 21-16 to deny an all Thai-clash in Friday's quarters.

The fourth-ranked Dechapol and Sapsiree are chasing their second world title after winning the gold medal in 2021.

The duo also finished runners-up in 2019.

Women's doubles eighth seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai were to play 16th seeds Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi of Indonesia.

In the women's singles, Ratchanok Intanon, Pornpawee Chochuwong and Busanan Ongbamrungphan were also due in action later last night.

Ratchanok was to face Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in a battle of former champions while Pornpawee was to play fourth seed Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan.

Busanan Ongbamrungphan was to meet second seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

Men's singles third seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn, a finalist last year, was to face 11th seed Lakshya Sen of India.

In other early results on Thursday, women's doubles top seeds Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China defeated Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela of India 21-14, 21-9 and seventh seeds Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida beat fellow Japanese Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi 21-13, 21-11.
