Chinese mixed pair set sights on fourth world title

Mixed doubles stars Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong of China will vie for their fourth world title in Copenhagen, Denmark, today.

The top seeds beat fellow Chinese Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin 21-18, 21-16 in yesterday's semi-finals of the BWF World Championships at Royal Arena.

They will take on fifth seeds Seo Seung-Jae and Chae Yu-Jung of South Korea who knocked out Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino of Japan 21-15, 21-13.

The Koreans had earlier defeated Thai pairs Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai and Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran in the quarter-finals and the last 16 respectively.

Zheng and Huang won the world titles in 2018, 2019 and 2022. They finished runners-up in 2017.

Carolina Marin of Spain will also eye her fourth world crown after booking her spot in the women's singles final.

The 30-year-old triple world champion edged twice winner Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 23-21, 21-13 yesterday.

Top seed An Se-Young of South Korea and third seed Chen Yufei of China, the reigning Olympic champion, were to face off in the second semi-final.

The women's doubles final will be a battle between top seeds Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China and 11th seeds Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti of Indonesia.

Chen and Jia defeated fellow Chinese Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu 21-14, 21-16 while Rahayu and Ramadhanti upset third seeds Kim So-Yeong and Kong Hee-Yong of South Korea 21-9, 22-20.

Thai hope Kunlavut Vitidsarn, last year's finalist, was to face HS Prannoy of India in the men's singles semi-final later last night.

Kodai Naraoka of Japan and Anders Antonsen of Denmark were to face off in the other semi-final.
