Norasetthada, Aphisara excel

Thai cyclists picked up three more gold medals on the penultimate day of the Track Asia Cup 2023 in Suphan Buri on Tuesday.

Norasetthada Bunma and Aphisara Srimongkhon won the men and women junior's time trial events while Nattakrit Kaeonoi took gold in the men junior's individual pursuit at the velodrome at Suphan Buri Sports School.

Norasetthada crossed the line in 1:05.496 minutes to win the men junior's 1-kilometre time trial for his third gold of the tournament after victories in the keirin and sprint events.

The silver and bronze medals went to Kazakhstan's Daniyar Shayakhmetov and Saudi Arabia's Ridha Almanasif respectively.

In the women junior's 500-metre time trial, Aphisara also got her third gold after clocking 37.606 seconds. The silver medal was won by Diana Kossolapova of 40.062 seconds.

Nattakrit crossed the line in 3:37.344 minutes to win the men junior's individual pursuit gold medal for the Thai national team. The silver medal went to Majed Abdullah Alessa of Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong cyclist Ka Chun Siu took the bronze medal. Tsz Yau Liz Lai of Hong Kong won the women junior event in 2:50.368 minutes. Pittayaporn Seatun got silver while Kazakhstan's Alina Alessenko won the bronze medal.

Natcha Songkhen won silver in the women junior's elimination race and Phetphanom Panmaung took bronze in the men junior's elimination race.

Thai cycling chief Gen Decha Hemkrasri expected at least one more gold medal on the last day of competition. "We are very pleased with the cyclists who did very well today to win three gold, two silver and one bronze medals especially Norasetthada and Aphisara," said Decha.

"In four days we won eight gold medals already. We should get one more gold on the last day tomorrow."

There are 10 gold medals on offer on the last day of competition.
