Thailand started their second round at the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship 2023 with a convincing 3-0 victory over South Korea in Nakhon Ratchasima on Sunday.

The Thai team won the match 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 at Korat Chatchai Hall to move to the top of Pool E standings with six points.

Vietnam defeated Australia 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-21) in the other pool game last night.

Thailand are chasing their third Asian title after winning the championship twice in 2009 and 2013.

Earlier in Pool F, China cruised past India 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-12) while Japan eased past Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-18).

"South Korea are playing better as the tournament goes on. It was another tough match for our team," said Thailand coach Danai Sriwacharamaytakul after the match.

"We played well today but there were also times when we were under pressure from the Koreans. But we were able to execute our game plan well," said Thanacha Sooksod, who had a fine game yesterday.

Wipawee Srithong added, "I scored a lot of points on Monday but there's still room for me to improve.

"Tomorrow we play Vietnam. It is a very important match. Hopefully the fans will come out and give us a lot of support."

Thailand, who have yet to drop a set after three matches so far, play Vietnam on Monday while South Korea meet Australia.

The Thailand v Vietnam match will be shown live on PPTV HD (36) starting 6pm.

In Pool F, China and Japan face off while India play Kazakhstan.
