Thailand coach Mano Polking is confident that his team will fare well in the 49th King's Cup football tournament, which kicks off in Chiang Mai on Thursday.

World No.70 and pre-tournament favourites Iraq will take on India, ranked No.99, in the first game before the War Elephants lock horns with Lebanon for a place in Sunday's final.

The winners of Thursday's tussles will meet in the final on Sunday while the losers face off in the third-place play-off.

Polking told a pre-match press conference on Wednesday that his players were all looking forward to Thursday's match.

"We have prepared the team well for this tournament and right now, every player in the camp is fit and without any injury," said the Brazilian-German coach.

"For the match with Lebanon, we are trying to find a winning formula as Lebanon are a strong team with a higher world ranking."

Lebanon are ranked No.100 in the world while the Thais are spotted at No.113 in the Fifa rankings.

Answering a question, Polking said: "I don't have any problem working along side Masatada Ishii [national team's technical chairman] at all."

Lebanon's Serbian coach Aleksandar Ilic said he had warned his players not to take Thailand lightly.

"Thailand are a team who have improved a lot so we cannot underestimate them at all," said Ilic.

"They are the hosts, but we have come here with a full squad to help us prepare for the World Cup qualifiers and the Asian Cup next year."

Thailand captain Theerathon Bunmathan said: "Although we failed to reach the final last year, there is no pressure on us.

"We respect Lebanon but we are more focused on our own game. We have had a good training stint so hopefully we will do well in the tournament."

Thailand manager Nualphan Lamsam said it will be a tough game for the Thais against Lebanon, "but we can expect an exciting match.

"It's a good opportunity for our players to showcase their talents so I hope they will do well in the King's Cup."
