Stephen Irvine promises to be ONE world champion

Stephen Irvine has taken ONE Championship by storm in recent months.

"El Matador" will look to make it three knockouts in three fights with the martial arts giant when he faces Singdomthong Nokjeanladkrabang in 127-pound catchweight Muay Thai action at ONE Lumpinee 38 on Friday, October 27.

Before Irvine looks to lay claim to a spot on the ONE roster at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, here is what you can expect from the rising Scottish star.

Background

Irvine started Muay Thai at just 7 years old at Deachkalek Muay Thai Academy in Drumchapel, Scotland.

Such an early beginning is somewhat of a rarity for Western fighters, but the now 23-year-old went on to dominate the European junior circuit, amassing over 100 bouts across the continent.

Irvine continued to dominate the professional ranks, as the rising star has proven to be virtually unstoppable while compiling an impressive 25-3 record.

He has reeled off two crushing knockouts in his ONE tenure so far, starting by dispatching Pettong Kiatsongrit in the second round at ONE Lumpinee 23 in June.

Irvine then followed up in August with another two-round demolition, this time over Phantep VK Khaoyai at ONE Lumpinee 27 to further his claims to a possible B3.5 million contract via the Lumpinee platform.

Fighting style

Irvine is a technical Muay Thai stylist with elite speed. The Scot uses deft footwork to create angles for his attacks and avoid counters, while regularly switching stances to confuse his opponents.

His fast hands have routinely caused problems for his opponents, but his kicking game is also not to be overlooked. Irvine has power and variety in his attacks from both legs, making him a well-rounded striker.

At ONE Lumpinee 38, Singdomthong likely needs to use his highly advanced clinch game to stifle Irvine's footwork and prevent him from unloading his signature punching combinations from range.

Lofty career goals

Irvine is riding a wave of confidence that comes from a staggering 13-fight win streak that he currently enjoys.

Following his August victory over Phantep, "El Matador" took to Instagram to outline his lofty career goals and make a promise to the ONE Championship faithful.

"I did tell everyone I was going to steam roller my opponent last night, and I did just that," he posted.

"Current Lumpinee champion current channel 7 champion, doesn't mean nothing when you're standing in front of me. My mindset my body everything is in the best place it has ever been, believe me when I say there is no one in This division going to come close to me. I will continue finishing these fights within 3 rounds, until I get where I want to be and I'll stay there. I want that contract, and I want that belt otherwise what would I be doing this for?

"@onechampionship I will be straw-weight world champion."
