Thai stars to have a go at 3 Finals titles

The world's top badminton players will head to Hangzhou, China, this week to take part in the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals.

The five-day tournament, which features the players with the most points from this year's BWF World Tour events, begins on Wednesday.

The tournament offers a total prize money of US$2.5 million (approximately 88 million baht) in five categories -- men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Thai shuttlers will compete in the men's singles, mixed doubles and women's doubles events this year.

Men's singles world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn will be bidding to win his first season-ending crown.

Mixed doubles stars Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai will be targeting their third title after their back-to-back wins in 2020 and 2021.

Women's doubles pair Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai will also play in the tournament this year.

The men's singles field also features Japan's Kodai Naraoka, who lost to Kunlavut in the world championship final, Indonesia's Jonatan Christie, China's Shi Yuqi, China's Li Shifeng, Denmark's Viktor Axelsen, Indonesia's Anthony Ginting and Denmark's Anders Antonsen.

The other pairs in the mixed doubles event are China's Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping, China's Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, South Korea's Seo Sung-Jae and Chae Yoo-Jung, Japan's Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino, South Korea's Kim Won-Jo and Jeong Na-Eun, Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet and Malaysia's Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei.

The women's doubles line-up also features China's Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan, South Korea's Baek Ha-Na and Lee So-Hee, Japan's Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara, Japan's Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida, China's Liu Shegnshu and Tan Ning, South Korea's Kim So-Yeong and Kong Hee-Yong and Indonesia's Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

The players/pairs in each event will be drawn into two groups of four, with the top two reaching the semi-finals.
