Ratchanok's title pursuit starts on Wednesday

Ratchanok Intanon will begin her campaign at the BWF Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters 2024 at Nimibutr Stadium on Wednesday.

The top seed will face Letshanaa Karupathevan of Malaysia in the first round of the US$210,000 (approx 7,240,000 baht) World Tour Super 300 event.

Mixed doubles top seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai will play Choong Hon Jian and Go Pei Kee of Malaysia while Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran will face Vinson Chiu and Jenny Gai of Malaysia in their opening matches.

Other Thai hopes Supanida Katethong, the fourth seed, and Busanan Ongbamrungphan, the fifth seed, and Kantaphon Wangcharoen will also play their first round matches on Wednesday.

Women's doubles defending champions Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard began their title defence with a 21-10, 21-8 victory over Kaitlyn Ea and Gronya Sokomerville of Australia.

They will next play Lanny Tria Mayasari and Ribka Sugiarto of Indonesia.

Meanwhile Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai lasted just nine minutes on the court as the top-seeded pair retired in the first game of their first round match on Tuesday.

Jongkolphan's injury forced the pair to retire while trailing 9-12 in the first game against China's Keng Shuliang and Zhang Chi.

Keng and Zhang will play fellow Chinese Li Yijing and Luo Xumin in the last 16.

Li and Luo defeated fourth seeds Meilysa Trias Puspitasari and Rachel Allessya Rose of Indonesia 21-13, 21-14 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile men's doubles pair Supak and Kittinupong Kedren moved safely into the last 16 on Tuesday.

They defeated Lwi Sheng Hao and Jimmy Wong of Malaysia 21-16, 21-10 and will next face either Kim Won-Ho and Na Sung-Seong of South Korea or Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal of Malaysia.

Thamonwan Nithiittikrai reached the women's singles main draw competition after she won her qualifying match against Wiktoria Dabczynska of Indonesia 21-19, 21-14 on Tuesday.

She will face former world champion Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the first round on Wednesday.

Men's doubles pairs Tanadon Punpanich and Wachirawit Sothon and Peeratchai Sukphun and Pakkapon Teeraratsakul are also through to the main draw competition after winning their qualifying matches on Tuesday.
