Unseeded Dalma Galfi of Hungary advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA Thailand Open at Arena Hua Hin yesterday.
The unseeded Hungarian stunned fifth seed Wang Xiyu of China 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 during their second round match.
World No.137 Galfi broke Wang in the 12th game of the third set to seal the match after nearly three hours.
Galfi was happy with her performance although the weather was very hot.
"I am delighted to make it through to the quarter-finals. It was a tough match and we both fought hard under the hot weather today. I am happy to make it through," said the Hungarian.
Galfi will face Diana Shnaider in the quarter-finals.
The Russian progressed after her Spanish opponent Paula Badosa retired with an injury in second set yesterday.
On Tuesday, Thai wildcard Thasaporn Naklo bowed out after losing to world No.70 Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
"It was my first appearance in this tournament and I felt really proud," said Thasaporn. "But it's a pity that I couldn't take my chances during the match.
"Overall, I am happy to get a chance to play in a higher level tournament like WTA for the first time. I learned a lot from playing against the top players.
"I know what I need to add to my game and I've gained a lot of confidence after playing a close match here. But I also know that I will have to improve a lot," she added.
Putintseva will face Swiss world No.71 Viktorija Golubic in the second round.
