Fancied Chinese players, defending champion and second seed Zhu Lin and third-seeded Wang Xinyu, booked their places in the semi-finals of the WTA Thailand Open in Hua Hin on Friday.
While Zhu had little trouble in finishing off No.101-ranked Australian Ariana Rodionova's challenge 6-3, 6-3, Wang had to work hard to salvage a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva in the quarter-finals.
Wang said after the match: "I am very happy to have advanced to the semi-finals of this event.
"Yulia played some good tennis but I think I was more aggressive."
Wang was off to a quick start as she dominated No.70-ranked Putintseva 6-1 in the first set.
The Chinese, ranked No.24 in the world, was in for a shock in the next set which Putintseva won 6-3, thanks to a number of unforced errors by Wang.
Wang regained her composure in time to record a 6-3 win in the deciding third set to punch her ticket to the semi-finals.
She will next face the winner of the quarter-final between Russian teenager Diana Shnaider and Hungary's Dalma Galfi.
Zhu will be facing the winner of last night's clash between Katie Volynets and China's Wang Yafan.
