Busanan finally gets better of Ratchanok

Qualifiers Peeratchai Sukphun and Pakkapon Teeraratsakul claimed another big upset, knocking out sixth seeds Akira Koga and Taichi Saito to reach the men's doubles semi-finals of the BWF Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters 2024 at Nimibutr Stadium on Friday.

The world No.76 duo dropped the first game against the 14th-ranked Japanese 14-21 but staged a comeback to win the next two 21-17, 22-20 in the quarter-finals of the World Tour Super 300 event.

Their next match will be against fellow Thais Supak Jomkoh and Kittinupong Kedren, who also needed three games to defeat Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Siedel of Germany 21-14, 16-21, 21-15.

In the women's singles event, Busanan Ongbamrungphan finally claimed her first ever win against Ratchanok Intanon on Friday.

Fifth seed Busanan, who lost her previous 12 matches against Ratchanok, fought back after losing the first game to eliminate the top seed 18-21, 22-20, 21-14 in 65 minutes. She will play Aya Ohori of Japan in the semi-finals. Ohori defeated fellow Japanese Nozomi Okuhara 15-21, 22-20, 21-18 yesterday.

In the bottom half of the draw, fourth seed Supanida Katethong will play Ashmita Chaliha of India for a place in the final.

Supanida defeated Wen Chi-hsu of Taiwan 21-17, 21-11 while Chaliha beat Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo of Indonesia 21-14, 19-21, 21-13.

Aimsaard sisters -- Benyapa and Nuntakarn -- moved a step closer to retaining their women's doubles title yesterday.

The second-seeded pair cruised into the semi-finals after beating Jesita Putri Miantoro and Febi Setianingrum of Indonesia 21-9, 21-7 in just 27 minutes.

They will face Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi, also from Indonesia, in the last four.

In the men's singles quarter-finals, fifth seed Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan defeated compatriot Lin Chun-yi 12-21, 21-17, 23-21; Mark Caljouw of Netherlands defeated Mithun Manjunath of India 21-19, 21-15 and Su Li-yang of Taiwan defeated Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong 21-18, 21-13.

Chou will face Caljouw while Su will play either Loh Kean Yew of Singapore or Takuma Obayashi of Japan in the semis.

Mixed doubles top seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai were to play Japanese seventh seeds Kyohei Yamashita and Naru Shinoya in a late match.
