Keeping your head down for too long will hinder swing

A golfing myth is that we must keep our heads down -- in fact, keeping it down too long will hinder your swing. Keeping your head down too long prevents a good follow-through because a golfer can't swing past hip-high with the head down and not give up something good in the finish to do it.

A player who is on their back nine of their lives should not fiddle with new technical swing movements but rather start to think of adding a 6- or 7-wood. Older players get their loft from their clubs, not from their swing. Adding loft is a reliable substitute for youth, strength & egos. A senior golfer must also play with softer shafts, as unfortunately the days of S shafts are gone.

Arthritis, especially in the hands, requires thicker grips and changing to longer shafts in the hope of more distance is something that needs to be carefully considered, as a longer club causes a big change in the swing plane, from upright to flat. Flat swings require more turn, which is difficult for an older player.

Out of Bounds: Miserable golfers are the most generous people l know. They will give you their misery whether you want it or not.
