Srettha to meet Formula E executives

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin says he has arranged to meet with Formula E executives next week discuss the possibility of hosting the world-renowned electric-car racing in Chiang Mai.

Mr Srettha said the executives are visiting Chiang Mai to survey an area suitable for the race.

Formula E, officially known as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, was launched in Beijing, China, in 2014.

Mr Srettha, also the finance minister, said Thailand would be an ideal venue for the tour following the jump in sales of electric vehicles in recent years.

Thailand is shifting more towards using electric vehicles (EVs), with orders for them reaching 40% of total car orders since the end of 2023.

In his X (formerly Twitter), the prime minister said on Monday during his current trip to Germany and France, he has talked to Jean Todt, a motor sport executive who formerly served as Chief Executive Officer of Ferrari at his Paris residence.

Mr Todt has expressed interest in supporting Thailand as a Formula E venue, according to Mr Srettha, who said he had invited Mr Todt to come to the country and help promote road safety.
