Mixed doubles stars Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai moved into the quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, China, yesterday.

The Thai pair battled past Chinese pair Chen Fanghui and Cheng Xing 21-16, 7-21, 21-18 in 65 minutes.

Dechapol and Sapsiree will play fourth seeds Seo Seung-Jae and Chae Yu-Jung of South Korea in the last eight today.

Meanwhile women's singles hope Busanan Ongbamrungphan bowed out after losing to top-ranked An Se-Young of South Korea 18-21, 9-21.

An will play China's He Bingjiao in the quarter-finals.

He defeated Sung Shuo-yun of Taiwan 21-8, 20-22, 21-16 in the last 16 yesterday.

Men's doubles players Supak Jomkoh and Kittinupong Kedren also exited the tournament after they lost to Olympic champions Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin, the world No.10 from Taiwan, 11-21, 14-21.

Women's doubles pair Laksika Kanlaha and Phataimas Muenwong also exited the tournament after losing to top-ranked Jia Yifan and Chen Qingchen of China 9-21, 16-21.

In the men's singles last 16 yesterday, Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia defeated Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan 21-15, 21-17; Li Shifeng of China ousted Wang Tzu-wei of Taiwan 21-10, 21-12 and Jonatan Christie of Indonesia knocked out Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong 21-14, 21-16.

In other women's singles results yesterday, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia defeated Pai Yu-po of Taiwan 21-19, 21-16; Aya Ohori of Japan upset Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan 22-20, 21-14; Chen Yufei of China downed Sim Yu-Jin of South Korea 21-9, 21-12.

Korean Kim Ga-Eun, who knocked out Thai star Ratchanok Intanon in the first round on Wednesday, retired with an injury during her match against Akane Yamaguchi.

The Japanese will face either Pusarla V Sindhu of India or Han Yue of China in the quarter-finals.
